Bringing your bicycle on the train
Book your bike space
Each WESTbahn train is equipped with 18 bicycle spaces, 16 of which can be reserved in advance. Here we explain the procedure for taking bicycles on the WESTbahn. To book your bike space, just fill in the journey planner above.
Travelling by bike and train – it's this easy:
For cyclists, taking a bike on the WESTbahn offers a number of advantages.
Step free bike space access
Our low-floor trains offer a step free access and extra-wide doors. The bicycle spaces are located directly in the boarding area.
Our trains are usually ready to board at the respective departure stations up to 30 minutes before departure – if you come earlier, you can secure your bike without stress.
Before departure, make sure to check the (digital) carriage indicator on the platform to find out where exactly the carriage with your reserved bike space will stop. You will find the carriage number on your WESTbahn ticket.
Booking and prices
Depending on the route selected and according to availability, a bike space reservation costs 4.90 euros, 6.90 euros or 9.90 euros if booked online at least 3 hours before departure. Please note that bike tickets are train-bound and can only be used on another train for a surcharge. Due to the limited space available, only one bicycle per passenger is permitted.
For a last minute bike space reservation (up to 3 hours before departure), a surcharge of 5.10 euros will be added to the above rates. Please note: on trains with high passenger volumes, the crew may refuse to take bicycles on board without prior reservation of a parking space for safety reasons.
Please note: children's bicycles are also transported for a fee. Folding bikes can be carried as luggage free of charge, provided they are transported in a closed transport bag.
For safety reasons tandems, transport bikes, bike trailers or mopeds cannot be transported on the WESTbahn.
