Finally, the time has come: On April 8, 2022 we will start our through connections from Vienna to Munich. From then on, in 3 h 47 min, we will connect Gemischten Satz and Weißbier, Englischen Garten and Donauinsel, Prater and Oktoberfest, Viktualien- and Naschmarkt and, of course, Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad and Weißwurst with sweet mustard. Above all: We are connecting two cosmopolitan cities with heart - and we are really looking forward to that!
And because we people from Austria and Bavaria are closely related, but rail transport doesn't work completely the same way, here's a
Short user guide for WESTbahn
We have been running long-distance services between Vienna and Salzburg as a private operator for ten years now, and Munich is our first destination outside Austria to be included in the timetable. Our crew as well as the team in the driver's cab are the heart of the company. They will hopefully soon also take you towards Vienna in our 15 high-quality Swiss KISS 3 double-decker sets from Stadler - with charm, a lot of comfort and on time! Here you can peep into our WESTbahn trains in advance.
For a comfortable journey in one of our three classes (First Class, Comfort Class and Standard Class), all travellers will find low WESTbahn standard and promotional fares*. We generally sell tickets and upgrades online, in our WESTshops, in Austrian kiosks ("Trafiken") and also directly on board**. When booking, you choose a day of validity for your ticket; it always includes a seat reservation when booking cross-border journeys online. If something changes in your travel plans, you can cancel your ticket here up to one day before the day of validity.
By the way, with your BahnCard (25, 50 or 100) you have a special advantage when booking your ticket in advance: WESTvorteilspreis costs 54,90 Euro for Munich - Vienna.
Even cheaper is our (limited and train-bound) WESTsuperpreis of 23,99 Euro or (if you are over 60) WESTaktivpreis (39,99 Euro), which you can use for your journey from Monday to Thursday. With each of our tickets, you can take up to 4 family children under the age of 15 for 1 Euro per journey.
From München Hauptbahnhof, WESTbahn runs through to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof after a short stop in München Ost. With stops in Vöcklabruck, Attnang-Puchheim, Wels, Linz Hauptbahnhof, Amstetten, St. Pölten and Wien Hütteldorf WESTbahn will reach Wien Westbahnhof after 3 hours 49 minutes. But your WESTbahn ticket is not yet useless after your arrival: You can use it to get discounts on admission or overnight stays with various cooperation partners!
You can find more helpful information in our FAQs. Or you can come and see us in person: Either in our WESTshop in München Hauptbahnhof (to be found on the level between S-Bahn and the tracks), which (from the beginning of April) will be open every day for you, or simply directly on board.
We are very much looking forward to being on the road with you!
* We do not accept tickets from other railways; you can also NOT use Bayernticket in WESTbahn.
** Not every fare is available everywhere, please refer to our GTC and the information flyers and texts on our website.
